This is an opportunity for participants to get hands-on experience making art that has impact.
Throughout the course of this 10-week collaborative project, residents all ages from the Rogers Park, Evanston and Austin areas will explore the five pillars of hip hop: b-boying, MCing, knowledge, graffiti and DJing.
Besides creating and performing new work, community members will explore the importance of language in graffiti, and the ways in which it has historically been used to create a voice against incarceration.
Led by professional artists (Michael Abedayo and Ethan Verns), participants will work together to create a compelling, dynamic art project that will be shared with the community and the public at an Open House at the end of the session.
Community Art Projects will also be shared in some capacity in a culminating, citywide exhibition for the Envisioning Justice exhibition in May 2019.
