“Life after Incarceration?,” the final event of the Incarceration at the Present Moment series, holds the purpose of exploring life after incarceration. For many, with being released from prison comes the question, is the sentence really over?
A moving documentary will be shown called Time: The Kalief Browder Story that proves that adjusting to society after being incarcerated is viewed through how adequately they are able to meet basic life needs.
In Browder’s case, he deeply struggled with restoring his mental health which resulted in him eventually taking his own life. After the film a circle will be conducted to openly reflect on the film and discuss what can be done as a Rogers Park community, along with Circles and Ciphers to better support those who have been incarcerated upon release.
