Restore Justice Illinois was founded by a dedicated group of activists and advocates who were tired of watching important but thorny criminal justice reform efforts get sidelined.   We are volunteer-driven and our board is drawn from affected communities, academic leaders, and local and national heavyweights from the reform movement.

Restore Justice Illinois (RJI) is a new civic organization founded to mitigate the human and fiscal impact of the extreme sentencing laws of the 1980s and 1990s, particularly where they have impacted children.

Our first priority is ending the practice of sentencing children to “life without parole” in Illinois by helping the Illinois General Assembly make good policy based on principled legal analysis, best practices in other states, guidance from the US Supreme Court, and international law.
